WUHAN - The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) convened in Wuhan Optics Valley Science and Technology Convention and Exhibition Center on June 10th, 2023, for a groundbreaking forum on Driving Solutions for High-quality and Sustainable Development. The meeting, chaired by Cao Jinghua and Marina Sokovic, emphasized the significance of scientific cooperation, biotechnology advancements, and the Belt and Road Initiative in addressing global challenges.

Professor Aldo Tagliabue, chief scientist of Laboratory of Inflammation and Vaccines in Shenzhen institute of advanced technology was invited. He is an expert in vaccine development. In his presentation, Tagliabue underscored the indispensable role of scientific collaboration in fostering vaccine innovation. He traced the progress made throughout history in controlling and eradicating diseases thanks to vaccines, whilst emphasizing the importance of safety and efficacy. His forward-looking remarks advocated for accelerated vaccine development, evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, using advanced technologies. Tagliabue further highlighted the emerging need for new vaccines catering to an aging global population and the critical requirement for preparedness against future pandemics.

In addition to vaccine development, the forum touched upon various other aspects of biotechnology, such as the transformation of bioeconomy models, bio-based solutions for safety and sustainable development, the use of non-human primates in drug and vaccine development, and the potential for bio-manufacturing to revitalize economies.

The forum concluded on an optimistic note, with speakers underscoring the importance of international collaboration, innovation, and the vast potential of biotechnology in driving economic and social development. As Professor Tagliabue aptly stated, the value of scientific cooperation cannot be underestimated, as it paves the way for the life-changing breakthroughs that humanity desperately needs in the face of global challenges.
